Creating a Long-Term Urban Green Asset

The Miyawaki Urban Forest Initiative at Kendriya Vidyalaya CRPF, Avadi was undertaken as an environmental restoration and urban-greening initiative designed to establish a dense and sustainable green space within an educational campus.

The initiative involved the plantation of 550+ saplings, with emphasis on developing a diverse and resilient green ecosystem rather than treating plantation as a one-day activity.

Project Objectives

  • Increase green cover within an urban institutional campus.
  • Support biodiversity through dense plantation.
  • Create a long-term environmental asset for students and the surrounding community.
  • Encourage environmental awareness through visible field-level action.
  • Demonstrate how CSR collaboration can support practical urban ecological initiatives.

Beyond Plantation

The initiative places importance on post-plantation care and long-term maintenance. The maintenance period is planned from September 2023 through September 2026, helping the plantation move beyond an event-based activity towards the establishment of a sustainable urban forest.

Collaboration and Impact

The project demonstrates a collaborative approach involving educational institutions, environmental implementation and responsible corporate participation. Such urban-forestry initiatives can contribute to greener institutional spaces while creating opportunities for students and communities to engage with environmental conservation.

The Avadi initiative forms part of a broader effort to connect environmental awareness with measurable field-level action.
